The responsibility of the
State Lands Management Program is to maintain a healthy, biologically
diverse ecosystem that will sustain wildlife including threatened
and endangered plant and animal species while providing for
quality air, water and soil; recreational and educational
opportunities; wood products for Division use and local industries;
and the protection of historical, aesthetic and cultural values
of the forest. The Division of Parks and Forestry is accountable
for the stewardship of 326,000 acres.
Goals - Management of our forests
incorporates the best forest stewardship principles derived
from a forest management plan developed with public input.
These goals include:
- Sound Research
- Educational Opportunities
- Public Notification
- Forest Health Management/Restoration
- Encourage Economic Opportunity
These goals are realized through various forest management
activities (silviculture) on state lands. Current activities
include but are not limited to:
The NJ Forest Service also has yearly events
on state lands where the public is encouraged to come out
and help us reforest areas that are in need of restoration.
There are many types of people and organizations that participate
in these events such as:
- Boy Scouts
- Cub Scouts
- Girl Scouts
- College Environmental Clubs
- 4-H Clubs
- Families
- NJ Forest Service Volunteers
